God’s blessing is the lubricant of life. Until Jacob went for the blessing, the nation or the greatness on his inside couldn’t manifest. Gen 32:24. God’s blessing affects every area of man’s life. 1 Chr 4:9-10. Your attitude is capable of keeping you blessed. People are grounded in life because of bad attitude. Jesus taught about the beatitude to help us understand the significance of attitude in determining the altitude of a man. Matt 5: 1-11
Below are the lessons from the Beatitudes:
1. Blessed are the Poor in Spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:3: the poor in spirit are those who constantly recognise their need in God. This person doesn’t trust in his ability. He is like a fish in the water, God wants us to see, that, without him we can’t survive and outside of him, we are like the fish that can’t survive outside the water. John 15:5
Attributes of the poor in the spirit:
a) They depend absolutely on God
b. They always wait on God for guidance. Psalm 23:1
C. Their expecting is always on God. Psalm 62:5
2. Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted: Matt 5:4: This refers to a state of disconnection from God. This simply means godly sorrow. 2Cor. 7:10. This type of person won’t explain their errors or sins. They won’t shift the blame. This person would have a tender conscious, not a dead one, he will be someone who will weep and go to God in genuine repentance after they fall in sin. This is the attitude that can retain God’s blessing. Those who wants to be truly blessed don’t live a life of sin. Anytime you sin and choose to remain in sin, it means you have decided to stay with the devil cos we don’t multiply sin under grace. To continue in sin and pray that grace abound puts a question mark on your salvation
3. Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth: Matt 5:5, This talks about humility. The Meeker you are, the better your life would be. Matt 22:29. Arrogance will not only turn you away from the blessings, but will also turn away God from you. Meekness means remaining small in your own eyes. Haughty hearts leads to pride. To enjoy God’s blessing continually, remain small in your own eyes. James 4:6, Psalm 22:26
4. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matt 5:6: Hunger for righteousness is hunger for God. Righteousness simply means right standing with God. Psalm 42:1-3. Hunger for God brings you into intimacy with God. It also prevents you from falling. Many things has taken our hunger from God. TV, Internet etc Psalm 34:10
How to develop hunger for God:
a. Empty yourself: Jesus will not fill any vessel that is not empty. The empty pot of wine was only filled because they were first empty. If you are too full of yourself, God cannot add to you in blessings. Hunger is critical to receiving God’s blessings. Luke 1:53
b. Choose God: Make God your priority. Isaiah 55:1, The 3 Hebrew men chose to stand for God
C. Stay in the word: 1peter 2:2, John 1:1. Build your hunger for the word.
