God has not left anyone desolate. This means there is no gift-less person. The gifts of the Spirit are meant for every believer. The gift is for every man to profit withal. It isn’t meant for pastors only. 1 cor 12:4-11
In our journey on this earth, we are not supposed to be in the dark in the happenings of life. God wants us to have foreknowledge of situations before and when it happens. We are not meant to depend on any pastor or prophets to see things for them.
The operation of these gifts per time is dependent on the holy Spirit. He knows when and which one is needed for you to operate in
Spiritual Gifts are classified into three (3) broad categories:
A. The Revelation Gifts
B. The Power Gifts
C. The Utterance Gifts.
A) The Revelation Gifts: are further subdivided into three gifts namely; The word of wisdom, The word of Knowledge, and the discerning of Spirits.
i. The word of wisdom: is the supernatural revelation of what will happen in the future. 1 Cor. 12:8. It can come in vision or impression. Acts 11:28, 1king 17:1, Matthew 24
ii. The Word of knowledge: is the supernatural revelation of facts that took place in the past or the present. 2king 5:20-27,
iii. Discerning of spirits: is the supernatural revelation of a spirit operating in a situation whether it is human, divine, or demonic. Acts 16:16-18
B) The Power Gifts: are further subdivided into three gifts namely; The gift of faith, The working of miracles, and The gift of healing
i. The gift of faith: is different from the ones bestowed on us at salvation. Everyone has the same measure of fat salvation. But the gift of Faith comes to someone to enable us supernaturally believe God and have assurances that God will move in a seemingly impossible situation. It comes upon a man to do something at a particular point to address a particular situation. Mark 4:37-38, Daniel 3:14
ii. The working of miracles: The holy Spirit enables us to carry outs acts that are supernatural and contrary to natural laws with powers beyond human capacity. John 2:1
iii. The gifts of healing: Miracle is instant, but healing takes process. It operates in different forms like laying of hands, speaking, or through mantles. 1 cor 12:9 Supernatural healing transcends diseases to mental problems or emotional breakdown.
C) The Utterance Gifts: are further subdivided into three gifts namely; The gift of prophecy, The gift of tongues/diverse kinds of tongues, and the interpretation of tongues.
i. The gift of prophecy: Numb 11:29, Joel 2:28, 1cor 14:31, Prophecy is the ability granted supernaturally by the Holy Spirit to speak forth God’s word to God’s people and not by man’s intellect.
How to examine or test prophecy – 1thess 5:19-21
– Does the prophecy agree with the scriptures?
– Does it glorify or uplift Jesus
– Does it build up God’s people
The gift of prophecy and the office of the prophetic is different. The gift of prophecy is by the Holy Ghost in you. but the office of the prophetic is a ministry that some few are called into and trained for.
ii. The Gift of Tongues/Diverse kind of Tongues: helps you speak in a language that you have not previously learned. Acts 2:11, Mark 16:17. There are 3 kinds of tongues
– Unknown Tongues: 1Cor.14:2. This is Speaking in tongues. It energizes you and confuses the enemies.
– The Tongues of Men: Acts 2:11, happens when someone needs to hear a gospel and they can’t understand the preacher’s language, and then God enabled the preacher to begin to speak in the tongues of men that can be understood by those around.
– Tongues of Angels: 1 Cor. 13:1
iii. Interpretation of Tongues: enables one to interpret an unknown and unlearned tongue into an understandable language. For instance, Daniel interpreted the meaning of the King’s dream where there was handwriting on the wall. Daniel 5
HOW TO STIR UP SPIRITUAL GIFTS:
There are deposits in you that have to be stirred up, or else it would be latent. 2Tim 1:6. Therefore to stir or activate spiritual gifts in you, the following is recommended:
1. Strong Desire: A strong desire for God and the things of God. 1 Cor. 12:31, The Gifts won’t just stroll into your life. God wants someone with a strong desire for the things of God. Rom 8:32. God’s gifts are for every status but specifically given to one with hunger and strong desire.
2. Prayer and Fasting: The greatest obstacle to the gifts manifesting in your life is your flesh. Gal. 5:17. John 7:38, Until flesh is broken, gifts can not emanate and to break the flesh, prayer, and fasting is a principal key to employ. Daniel employed prayers and fasting to enter into the operations of the giftings of discernment of Spirits. Dan 10:2-5. Jesus also had to transform and activate his giftings through forty days of prayers and fasting.
3. Effective Service: The gifts of God are for service and not for show. 1 Peter 4:10. Service allows the Holy Spirit to speak through your life. Mark 16:15. 1 Cor. 12:7(AMP)
4. Laying on of hands: Gifts and virtues are often transferred by the laying on of hands. Acts 19:6. So a more senior minister in things of the spirit can lay hands on an individual and spiritual giftings can be activated. Acts 13:2-3.
5. Faith: At salvation, we all have a measure of Faith. But we need the holy spirit to add to this faith to enable us to do beyond our own belief or capacity. Mark 11:22. Matt 14:25-29,
6. Spiritual workshops or bootcamps: are intensive trainings under mentors. Acts 13:1. The Bible recorded how some men were transformed because they camped around David. 1 Sam 22:2, 2 Sam 23:8.
