Beyond being aware of the role or importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we need to know how to walk or relate with him. Achieving a thriving relationship with the Holy Spirit, begins with knowing that the Holy Spirit is real, he’s not abstract. He is a divine personality with emotions; he can be hurt or be pleased with our actions, he can hear and speak to us when we engage him in conversation, he shows us things and prompts us to act. As such, we need to recognize and acknowledge him in our lives, as we do close friends, family members or important people in our lives. Our acceptance or recognition of people, show they matter to us. This is the foundation, of any successful relationship. So, we need to begin to see or perceive the Holy Spirit as a divine or superior being (not as something non-existent) to be able to give him the proper and adequate recognition he deserves. John 14:16-17.
Because of his divine nature, we can’t see or touch him physically, hence, the need for us to be spiritually sensitive, to be able to relate with and understand him better. Romans 8:5-6. A carnal minded life (life style) hinders the move of the Holy Spirit. It takes a spiritually minded person to connect with the Holy Spirit Gal 5:16-26. Being spiritually sensitive requires engaging in spiritual activities like studying the word of God regularly, praying and worshipping God always and obeying God’s instructions. Even though we’re in this physical world, bear in mind that as believers, we are operating from a higher realm because we are seated with Christ Jesus in heavenly realms! That’s our position as Christians and that’s why we are more spiritual than physical.
Having pointed out the need for a good relationship with the Holy Spirit, and the fact that He craves our attention, it is expedient, therefore, to regularly communicate with him because communication- frequent and consistent- is fundamental to the success of any relationship.
Remember, who you spend time with, has a major influence on you and what you spend time on, determines the kind of result you will get. So, spend more time with the Holy Spirit today! He is readily available to guide and lead you. Selah!
